You can always count on Redstone to keep it classy . . . Sumner Redstone Pretends he has Friends Viacom and CBS executive chairman Sumner Redstone reminisced Wednesday about firing Tom Cruise but added that the two are “best friends” today. “Originally, I actually fired Tom. His behavior was terrible,” Redstone said at a semi-private lunch at the Milken Institute Global Conference. “He was jumping on the couch on the Oprah show. Women hated him. A lot of people said they would never come back and see Tom Cruise. “Actually, he was getting $10 million, on the lot, for doing nothing," Redstone continued. {EDIT: Gross of Paramount films starring Tom Cruise in 2012 = $3.9 billion unadjusted] "That’s why I fired him, and a lot of the studios complimented me.”
“Later on, we had a meeting at a restaurant in Los Angeles, and Tom said, ‘I want to come back.’ I said, ‘You’re never gonna get the same deal you had before, Tom.' He said: ‘I don’t care. I want to work with them.' So I recommended that we take him back to Brad,” Redstone said. “Today, he is one of my best friends. We go out to dinner. I’ve been at his house with his wife Katie. “He doesn’t get what he got before, and he doesn’t care,” Redstone said. Noting that Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol is outperforming the previous installments of that film franchise, Redstone said, “So, see, [fans] have come back to see him.” SOURCE*facepalm* Lord help if I had "best friends" like these..

Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes Divorcing
NEW YORK (AP) - Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are calling it quits after five years of marriage.
"This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family," Holmes' attorney Jonathan Wolfe said Friday. "Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest."
Cruise's lawyer Bert Fields said Holmes filed for divorce on Thursday.
Cruise, 49, wed the 33-year-old Holmes in 2006 in an Italian castle after publicly declaring his love on "The Oprah Winfrey Show," emphatically jumping on her couch.
The couple has a 6-year-old daughter, Suri, who has herself become a staple of the tabloids and celebrity magazines.
Their plan to divorce was first reported by People magazine.
"Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children," Cruise's representative, Amanda Lundberg, said. "Please allow them their privacy to work this out."
Cruise and Holmes had a whirlwind romance - the "Dawson's Creek" actress confessed she had a childhood crush on the "Top Gun" star - and were engaged at the Eiffel Tower. An elaborate wedding followed before a Church of Scientology minister.
"I can't be cool. I can't be laid-back," a starry-eyed Cruise said on "The Oprah Winfrey Show." "Something happened and I want to celebrate it."
But the couple's romance was instant fodder for the tabloids, who chattered about everything from the couple's fights and Suri's clothing to Holmes' conversion to Scientology.
Cruise, currently starring in "Rock of Ages," was previously married to Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman, with whom he has two children.

Wow, I'm pretty shocked about this, considering that they were spotted hand in hand in Iceland 2 weeks ago. I'm not sure what to make out of this, especially with Katie apparently seeking sole custody. I remember reading many years ago that their marriage was a contract marriage and would run for 5 years. Coincidence? I'd say good riddance, never like Katie... She was beginning of Cruise's downfall, but this is going to hurt his public image again and invite people to speculate about all the stuff that was just starting to slip under the carpet. Ghost Protocol was redemption for Cruise, and he was finally winning over "lost" fans, but this puts him back to square one (if not worse). Feel sorry for Suri This is why you should never jump on the couch for anyone. They may slap you with divorce papers days before your 50th birthday. Ha.

What an intentionally vicious act, filing for divorce 5 days before his birthday and without any public announcement.
I never liked her.. I was surprised when he proposed her after breaking up with Penelope and dating some ladies.. Katie was dying for him, remember how she told in an interview that she had a big crush on Cruise and dreamed that she would marry him one day.. That was long before Tom met her and started dating..
I never believed in the contract rumours..That was bullsh**.. She was mesmerised by him ..
Rox..Unfortunately you are right about his public image. Just when he was having a great time and making interesting movies, the idiots will start talking about all kinds of crap and his image will be hurt..I am very sorry for him. I dont know what he found in that woman - perhaps he was attracted to her youth and wanted to have a child ..
Good luck to Tom.. Hope he gets over this sad and unpleasant situation. I am very sorry for Suri too.. . *

Relationship-wise Tom Cruise isn't much of a stayer, but then who is? Most couples last five to ten years, longer if they have kids. Cruise's relationships have mostly tended to last three to six years. Rebecca DeMornay, '83 to '85, was the shortest but they were both young. Mimi Rogers was just under three years (May '87 to February '90). Cruise's one long-term relationship was with Nicole Kidman, lasting just over 10 years from '90 to '01. Penelope Cruise was...what, two and half or three years, '01 to '04? And now the Katie Holmes marriage is toast after six...okay, seven years if you count courtship.
Tom and Katie have a daughter together, Suri, and she'll be the basis of their post-marital bond for the rest of their lives. It's no biggie. We all move on, renew, find new oil, rebuild, join new health clubs, re-finance, re-adapt.

For once Wells says something reasonable and adult. ;D
Despite the gutter press going nuts this will likely be a quiet, quick, efficient affair. The case will get moved to CA, in return Holmes will get more money than she's entitled to (or should ask for), being the woman she will also get primary physical custody, but they will have joint legal custody, and after a year of proper mourning Tom and Rox can finally be together.
No muss, no fuss. The End.

Tom and Rox ? What about me ? Because I have a future boyfriend (Rupert) ?
Yes, Wells' post was reasonable and adult..That s why I posted it.
I am posting the legal side as explained by Tom's attorney on L.A. Times:
Tom Cruise's attorney hopes Katie Holmes divorce isn't contentious July 1, 2012 | 7:37 am
Tom Cruise's longtime legal representative said he's hopeful that the divorce proceedings initiated by the movie star's wife, Katie Holmes, can occur without rancor.
"I would hope that it's not a contentious matter. I know Tom is not a particularly contentious person," Bert Fields said.
Holmes, 33, has retained two prominent law firms that specialize in wealthy breakups. New York lawyer Allan E. Mayefsky has been involved in a number of acrimonious and headline-grabbing splits, including the divorces of model Christie Brinkley, TV anchor Joan Lunden, and a Manhattan financier who was ordered to pay his ex-wife $44 million.
In addition, the "Dawson's Creek" actress hired a New Jersey divorce lawyer, Jonathan Wolfe, whose website boasts of his prowess in "complex matrimonial matters" involving "leaders or the spouses of leaders" in business, entertainment and sports. He has written extensively about prenuptial agreements and ways to recover hidden assets in divorce proceedings.
In a statement, Wolfe called the divorce "a personal and private matter."
"Katie's primary concern remains, as it has always been, her daughter's best interest," the lawyer said, referring to the couple's daughter, Suri, 6.

Speculation about a prenuptial agreement began almost immediately after the couple's engagement. Cruise already had two ex-wives in Hollywood — the actresses Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman, with whom he adopted two children. His annual earnings — recently estimated by Forbes at $75 million — dwarfed those of his young bride, whose father is a lawyer.
Asked whether there was a prenuptial agreement, Fields said, "I can't comment on that. It will all come out."
Bernard Clair, a Manhattan divorce lawyer with many wealthy clients, said judges generally order divorcing couples to abide by the terms of their prenuptial agreements when it comes to finances. But the court often modifies provisions governing child support and custody, potential issues in the Cruise-Holmes breakup.
"These provisions relating to custody are almost always viewed as statements of intent and aspiration as opposed to enforceable and binding provisions," Clair said.
The decision to file in New York rather than California might have been one of convenience — Holmes and the couple's daughter are currently living in New York — but it also might reflect a desire for privacy.
"My guess is that she brought it in New York because files are sealed," said Manhattan attorney Raoul Felder, a veteran of high-profile divorce cases. "If it was in California, it's all public and you can walk into the clerk's office and get the papers."

I agree, most Hollywood couples last a very short time. Hollywood relationships have a short shelf life and had it been anyone else, no one would have cared. But because Tom's life has been shrouded in mystery regarding Scientology, and because he's become the poster child for everything creepy, this will create a ruckus. All of the weird Scientology stuff is resurfacing, something people were starting to forget. I don't think Katie is vicious, after all, we dont know what happened. I really do sometimes wonder if what people say is true; that it's a contract and that the church of Scientology actually auditioned young women for the role of Toms wife. I just find it bizarre that all his marriages ended when his spouses turned 33.

Oh please ! How can you say that ?
How can you take the contract tale seriously and talk about it which is plain RUBBISH !
3 wives Divorcing at the age of 33 (lol) is just a strange coincidence ! Such coincidences happen.. After all it was Holmes and her father who have filed for divorce , not Tom !
Her father who is an attorney must be watering in the mouth as he thinks of the money his daughter will get..
Seen her appear to the cameras today in N.y ? Her driver , her car and her new apartment ? She was a starlet before she met Tom and will stay a starlet but thanks to Tom she has become a wealthy , high living woman. Please , let s be sensible and not listen to idiotic rumours and lets not repeat them here -- they are rubbish ! Some people love making up stories like that and turn up believing in them.. You should know .
