Tom Cruise was spotted in New York City today with his wife, Katie Holmes. The pair picked up some sweets at Magnolia Bakery and then ran a bunch of errands. Tom Cruise’s career is in full swing at the moment. He’s been working on the Mission Impossible sequel and he’s signed on for Rock of Ages. Now, there is a rumor that Tom is in the running for the role of Alex Murphy/RoboCop in the film’s remake. MGM is also eyeing stars such as Johnny Depp and Keanu Reeves for the role. I could see either Tom or Keanu in the role, seeing both can come off as robotic at times. However, out of the three, I can only see Reeves being interested in the role.

Time for the Ol' Reach(er) around again! ;D Cruise in Talks for 'One Shot' Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions are negotiating with Tom Cruise to star this fall in One Shot, a thriller based on the Lee Child book series about former military policeman-turned-drifter Jack Reacher. Christopher McQuarrie will direct his script. The talks going on right now is for Cruise to make the movie before he stars in the Joseph Kosinski-directed Oblivion at Universal, which starts in January.
Making a Cruise deal is always tricky, and if the One Shot deal takes awhile to come together, it would happen after Oblivion shoots next year. Paramount will co-finance the film with Skydance Productions, whose principal David Ellison also co-financed Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol. Blah, blah, blah. More at the Source, everyone hold their breath.

Summit wants Tom Cruise to Mentor "HIGHLANDER" in Movie Reboot
20 November 2014 2:00 PM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »
It's been over a year since visual effects supervisor Cedric Nicolas-Troyan was set to make his directorial debut on Highlander, a reboot of the film franchise of the same name that's set up at Summit Entertainment. Ryan Reynolds was once going to star in the film, but fell away from the project last summer. The hunt is still on to find someone to take the lead role, and they might get a boost to finding a big name, because The Wrap is looking to land a superstar for the role of Ramirez, the man who mentors and trains an immortal Scottish swordsman seeking revenge against a barbarian chasing him across time. Tom Cruise is currently the target to take the role of Ramirez, but one of Cruise's representatives said the actor is "one of many projects that come to him" but he's "far from talks" as far as progress goes towards taking the role. »

Tom Cruise Might Modernize Highlander
20 November 2014 9:49 AM, PST | cinemablend.com | »
With the Highlander reboot back on track with a new director, it was only a matter of time before new casting rumors began to emerge. Now that process has begun, and the production seems to be aiming very high with their first targeted actor: the legendary Tom Cruise. While there aren't any actual negotiations going on just yet, The Wrap is reporting that Highlander has taken an interest in Tom Cruise to play the mentor role played by Sean Connery in the original. Insiders have pegged the actor as Summit's top choice for the part, and even have noted that the character's role would even possibly be expanded just to fully take advantage of Cruise's star power. The idea would be that Cruise would be teamed up with a younger actor playing Connor MacLeod, the immortal Highlander looking for revenge against a barbarian known as The Kurgan. »
Before you get either too excited or too depressed about this news (I'm sure this would be pretty divisive casting), it should be noted that this idea is far from a done deal. For right now, all of the interest currently resides with Summit Entertainment, as Tom Cruise is currently hard at work filming Mission: Impossible 5. A representative for the Oscar-nominee noted that the actor has been approached about Highlander, but added that it is just "one of many projects that come to him and he discusses."
If we can play around in hypotheticals a bit, the idea of Tom Cruise joining Highlander in the Juan Ramirez role would definitely be an interesting step for him. It's true that we've seen him step into supporting roles many times before - from Magnolia to Collateral - but as far as I can remember this will be the first time that he's ever been in the 'mentor' position. The actor is certainly still one of the biggest stars in the world - and the continuation of the Mission: Impossible franchise proves that - but it is interesting that he will eventually have to shift to playing different kind of parts as he gets older.
Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, best known for his work as a special effects supervisor and second unit director, is making his feature directorial debut with Highlander, and is using a script written by Art Marcum & Matt Holloway (Iron Man) as well as Melissa Rosenberg (Twilight). The project doesn't currently have a release date, but if production is being eyed to start next year, it's possible that we could see the reboot in theaters as early as 2016.
