MOULIN ROUGE - Years Later: Baz Luhrmann Talks Heath Ledger's Audition
Now that the DVD has been sitting on our shelf for more than a decade, we couldn't possibly picture "Moulin Rouge!" with anyone but Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman in the lead romantic roles. But during our 10th-anniversary retrospective on the film, and our interview with director Baz Luhrmann, MTV News unearthed the surprising news that they weren't the only actors being considered. In fact, Baz auditioned a veritable slew of Hollywood talent in his search for the perfect courtesan and her hopeless suitor.
And as a result, he's sitting on a treasure trove of footage of some of our favorite actors... singing.
"I saw everyone," Baz exclaimed. "I have audition material of people you wouldn't believe. And I know who can really sing."
For instance, among the surprise vocal powerhouses on those unreleased tapes: the late, great Heath Ledger.
"Dear Heath Ledger—incredible," Baz said, gushing over the actor's singing abilities. Sadly, Heath didn't make the cut when the nature of the role changed; Baz explained that "at one stage, Christian was very young, he was a younger guy," but that they eventually opted to take the character in a more mature direction. Which is too bad! Because as fabulous as Ewan was, the list of early contenders to play Christian reads like a Who's Who of Young Hollywood hotties—including none other than Heath Ledger's "Brokeback Mountain" costar Jake Gyllenhaal.
"He's a wonderful actor with a great voice, a tremendous voice," Baz said of Jake. "Jake should do a musical."
Well, of COURSE he should. Big screen stars on Broadway are one of our favorite things! And really, you can only go ogle Daniel Radcliffe in "How to Succeed in Business" so many times before you start yearning for some fresh, musical meat. Let's make it happen!
Which musical role would you want to see Jake play?

Great Scary Movies without GoreIf you are looking for some movie thrills and chills this Halloween season, here are some excellent movies that scare but do not include gory scenes. THE OTHERS"The Others" (2001). Directed by Alejandro Amenabar. Starring Nicole Kidman, Christopher Eccleson and Fionnula Flanagan. A mother living in post-World War II Britain awaits the return of her war veteran husband. Her two children are photosensitive, or in other words any sunlight exposure harms their health. Because of the children’s condition, the woman and children live cut off from the outside world, with the rooms darkened and the doors locked. Slowly the woman begins to accept the possibility that they are not alone in their large home. [/URL] Director Alejandro Amenabar creates a claustrophobic and tension-filled atmosphere from the beginning of the movie. Amenabar works to ratchet up the general feeling of dread as increasingly frightening things happen to the children and then the mother. Not spoiling anything, this movie has one of the best twist endings I have ever seen. It is too bad the movie was overshadowed by the release of "The Sixth Sense," since "The Others" is superior in every way. "The Others" also offers an amazing score composed by Alejandro Amenabar. Nicole Kidman, 44, in talks to play Grace Kelly, 33
April 6, 2012, WENN Oscar winner Nicole Kidman is in talks to portray Hollywood legend Grace Kelly in a new movie about the actress who became a real-life princess, according to Variety. The actress is being courted for the lead in "Grace of Monaco," an independent film chronicling the European principality's 1962 clash with neighboring France over tax issues. Olivier Dahan, who wowed Hollywood with his "La Vie en Rose" and helped Marion Cotillard win an Oscar for her portrayal of French singer Edith Piaf, is attached to direct. The film will focus on Kelly's life from 1961 through 1962, when, at the age of 33, she was credited with saving the country from being overthrown by the French MSN

How Nicole Kidman Landed Grace Kelly Start the Oscar buzz now. Olivier Dahan, who directed Marion Cotillard to her Oscar win for "La vie en rose," has offered Nicole Kidman the much-coveted title role in his Grace Kelly biopic "Grace of Monaco." She is now in negotiations.
How did the 44-year old actress land the role? After all, the movie is set between 1961-62, when Kelly was 32. The answer: the star of this movie not only had to boast the movie star looks, class, and smarts to play Grace Kelly, but needed to be an internationally bankable star. Kidman would raise more funding and boost the budget for this period film, as well as adding to its awards prospects by dangling the sugar plum of a fourth Oscar nomination in distributors' heads. The film has been compared to The Weinstein Co.'s Oscar-winning "The King's Speech"; Kidman is also a favorite of Harvey Weinstein, who championed her Oscar-winning role in "The Hours." These are assets that her younger competitors did not have.
Arash Amel's script, which landed on the 2011 Black List of best unproduced screenplays, begins six years into the Oscar-winning refugee from Hollywood's marriage to Prince Rainier III of Monaco. While she's already raising two kids, she's also involved in the politics of the tiny city-state, per THR, which "got into a heated dispute with France, which grew tired of the petite principality being a tax haven. Kelly, still relatively new in her role as princess, maneuvered behind the scenes to save Monaco from a coup."
Last October we considered which actresses could pull off the role, from Rosamund Pike, Gwyneth Paltrow and Naomi Watts to Charlize Theron, January Jones, Diane Kruger and Amber Heard. We focused on younger players who could play 32 and dismissed Kidman because of her age. Thankfully others did not. SOURCE

Cannes : Photo: WireImage 18 of 35 .Decked out in a pleated, one-shouldered Lanvin number, Nicole Kidman brings her A-game to the premiere of "The Paperboy," a movie in which she pees all over the pretty face and pecs of Zac Efron (the urine stream scene involves a jellyfish). The actor still seems cautious around the high-rise Oscar winner, making sure to keep his leg out of the line of fire.

Nicole Kidman says divorce from Tom Cruise was shock to system
Nov 13, 2012, 20:33 GMT Nicole Kidman claims her marriage to Tom Cruise was 'perfect' before their split. The 'Grace of Monaco' star has revealed their divorce in 2001 after 10 years of marriage was a complete 'shock' to her system and it took her a long time to get over it but her current husband of six years Keith Urban has made her feel 'secure' again. She told DuJour magazine: 'I fell madly, passionately in love I was reeling with Tom. I would have gone to the ends of the earth for him.' On reflection, 'The Others' actress admits she 'was so impulsive and naive' during her relationship with Tom but at the time she felt: 'We were in a bubble, just the two of us. We became very dependent on one another. Our life together was perfect. 'It took me a very long time to heal. It was a shock to my system.'
