Stripping for Tom Cruise We visited the multi-talented beauty on a photoshoot for the upcoming issue of Seventeen magazine, and Hough gave us the inside scoop on what it's like to be thrown into the spotlight (in her skivvies, no less!) with Tom Cruise.
"Rock of Ages is so epic I cannot even tell you," Julianne beamed with excitement. "I was literally two days ago doing a scene with Tom Cruise where my character is a stripper!"
Standing opposite the Mission Impossible icon, Julianne confesses her mind was racing, recalling the conversation within her brain went something like this: "Oh my gosh, can I do this?" quickly followed by, "this is awesome!". SOURCE

Shankmann Q&A Ministry caught up with the multi-talented director and choreographer this week while he was on the road, to chat about awards, childhood inspiration and Alec Baldwin's wig.
Shankman has directed musicals including "Hairspray" and the upcoming Tom Cruise starrer "Rock of Ages." He's also the recipient this year of one of Outfest's Legacy Awards.
MoG: "Rock of Ages" seems to be the perfect storm of all that, with such a huge cast. Was there any trepidation at all in working with Tom Cruise?
AS: No, and in a strange way, it was a near perfect experience. His level of commitment and enthusiasm, I mean, he becomes this incredible partner for you.... I learned that he has two things in life that he loves: his family and his work.
MoG: What about the risk of casting him as an iconic rock star, something we've never seen from him before?
AS: He and I agreed a long time ago that we would never expose him if he wasn't going to be great. And he threw himself in 2 million percent.
MoG: This is also a major step for Alec Baldwin. From all of his "30 Rock" success it's clear that his film career could be viable again, but let's start first with his hair.
AS: I mean, when we put that wig on him, we giggled for hours. SOURCE

Tom Cruise tries something really scary: Singing Tom Cruise risked life and limb filming action sequences at the top of the world's tallest building for "Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol," but he said that wasn't any scarier than the singing required for his first musical, the just-wrapped "Rock of Ages."
"They all have their risks," Cruise said with a laugh of playing rocker Stacee Jaxx in Adam Shankman's adaptation of the Tony-winning 2006 musical, which featured songs by jukebox heroes such as Bon Jovi, Styx, Journey and Pat Benatar. Among the tunes Cruise belts out in the film: "Pour Some Sugar on Me."
Shankman is coming off the foot-tapping success of "Hairspray," while Cruise, inspired by his dance-loving wife, Katie Holmes, is taking a true genre gamble even as he celebrates the 30th anniversary of his first screen appearances ("Endless Love" and "Taps" both came out in 1981). The action star said Holmes' influence is also why he added some memorable dance-floor moves to his Hollywood agent performance in "Tropic Thunder."
"I had started dancing because I was inspired by my wife. She kept saying, 'You've got to do a musical sometime,' " Cruise said. "Kate's a dancer, so she would say, 'Let's go to dance class,' and she would take us and that's how I kind of came up with the idea of Les Grossman doing hip-hop. And then to take it to this level with this? It was really fun."
The actor said he's just pumped to be working with Shankman.
"He's on fire," Cruise said. "What he accomplished with 'Hairspray' was amazing. My daughter has seen it 15 times and our whole family has watched it over and over and it's just enormously entertaining. To be able to hold that tone throughout is really something."
The cast of "Rock of Ages" also includes Diego Boneta, Julianne Hough, Russell Brand, Alec Baldwin, Mary J. Blige and Catherine Zeta-Jones, and much of the heavy lifting for the shoot was done in South Florida. Cruise said his singing and dancing work there was a different challenge than his "Mission: Impossible" job swinging out windows atop the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, but in some ways more stressful.
"I was working on it when I was finishing 'Mission' and I was singing five hours a day and I was dancing five hours a day," Cruise said. "Adam said, 'Look, we're going to have a lot of fun,' and we really did.... I did six months preparing for the movie, and all my stunt training and all of those years doing that, it helped me with the choreography." SOURCE

Adam Shankman talks <ROA> Trailer Though the film's casting process snagged headlines early on, we haven't heard or seen too much from "Rock of Ages," but Shankman said that should change soon, when a trailer arrives this month. The director said the wait will be worth it for all of the craziness we'll end up seeing. "It is a batsh-- crazy movie," he said. "It is a ride from beginning to end; it is giant movie stars singing classic-rock karaoke in '80s drag having the time of their lives. It's just a big party."
The one thing we have seen from the film is an official snapshot of Tom Cruise, rocking out, minus a shirt, and at the premiere, Shankman hyped up the "Mission: Impossible" star's rock abilities. "For Tom, well, I would say he does an insane version of 'Pour Some Sugar on Me,' that every time I show it to people, they're like, 'Can we see that again?' " Shankman said.
According to the director, things get even more heated when Cruise teams up with Malin Akerman for a power ballad. "He and Malin Akerman do one of the most outrageous interpretations of 'I Want to Know What Love Is'; I just hope I get it past the ratings board," he said.
The number is so out-there, according to Shankman, that he considers it the craziest thing he's directed. "[Malin] is fearless, she's awesome," he said. "We knew you couldn't tell jokes about rockers in the '80s halfway, so it's very funny, but it's also sexy and it's a little insane. I've never made anything that is that nuts. SOURCE

Boneta Learned To Strum With Cruise
WENN |
Mexican actor Diego Boneta became firm friends with Rock Of Ages co-star Tom Cruise as they prepared to play rockers for the much-anticipated movie musical - they shared the same guitar teacher.
When Cruise discovered he and his castmate were both studying with the same expert, he proposed they jam together on set.
Boneta says, "Tom noticed we were sharing the same teacher and he approached me... I was so honoured!"
And the young star still can't believe he befriended Cruise on the set of his first movie: "He was definitely somebody I looked up to growing up. I told him it was my first movie and he took an interest in me. He gave me a lot of powerful advice during the filming. I could say he was mentoring me.
"Tom is by far the most dedicated and professional individual I’ve ever worked with."
Cruise makes his movie musical debut as rock star Stacee Jaxx in the film, while leading man Boneta plays wannabe Drew Boley

I hope it's "Rock You Like a Hurricane," that was my favorite from the songs I heard.
