Paramount planning for Tom Cruise's "Jack Reacher" sequel?
Published Sunday, Feb 24 2013, 05:37 GMT
Paramount and Skydance reportedly are considering a follow up to last year's Jack Reacher, starring Tom Cruise in the title role.
Jack Reacher follows a former US Army Military Police Corps officer who is hired to investigate a case involving a military sniper who killed random victims.
The movie also stars Rosamund Pike, Richard Jenkins and Robert Duvall.
Jack Reacher recently crossed the $200 million mark worldwide, which makes it the 19th hit film for Cruise, reports Deadline. The studios are apparently "figuring out" a sequel.
Cruise can be seen next in Oblivion and All You Need is Kill. The actor also has signed for a fifth instalment of his Mission Impossible franchise.
In 2011, the 50-year-old said that he will continue to make action films for a while.
He shared: "I'm just going to keep going, as long as I can do it. I love making action movies."

Jack Reacher sequel in the works?
February 23, 2013
Tom Cruise has another global hit on his hands after his latest movie, Jack Reacher, crossed $200 million worldwide. Amazingly, this is the 19th time Cruise has achieved this, which is a record-breaking statistic and a true testament of his star-power. Now, Deadline claim that Paramount and Skydance see the Lee Child adaptation as a potential franchise, and a Jack Reacher sequel seems likely.
Here’s what Deadline had to say:
The movie cost $60 million and I am hearing that they are already figuring out the sequel at Paramount and Skydance. Studios are all about franchise building, and some take off financially on the second go-around. There are so many good Reacher books written by Child that there’s a wealth of ground to cover here.
However, there was controversy surrounding the casting of Cruise as the titular character, due to Reacher standing 6’5 inches tall and Cruise only 5’7. However any concerns were quickly quashed when it became clear that the narrative would remain faithful to the gritty source material.
Although the film only grossed $79 million at the US box-office, Jack Reacher was a critical hit that achieved the success it rightly deserved, largely thanks to Cruise’s global appeal.

Sequel Likely As Cruise & McQuarrie’s ‘Jack Reacher’ Hits $200 Million
22 February 2013 2:30 PM, PST | The Hollywood News |
Superstar actor Tom Cruise and writer/director Christopher McQuarrie’s team-up on action-thriller, Jack Reacher, may not have been the runaway success the studios financing hoped, but today still saw the film reach an impressive worldwide gross of $200 million.
Paramount Pictures and Skydance were hoping to kick-start a new franchise featuring author Lee Child’s ex-military cop. However, despite a majority of critical praise, the film based on Child’s 9th novel, One Shot, didn’t quite reach the studios target domestically. With a budget of $60 million, Jack Reacher needed to perform well in its delayed release in Asian markets such as China and Japan, in order to move forward with a sequel.
Jack Reacher has done just that, as the film marks the 19th time a flick led by Cruise has crossed $200 million at the international box-office. An impressive feat not many others are even close to. A sequel now looks likely, »
