Cruise's India Visit It's finally official! Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise has confirmed his visit to India, and will be landing in Mumbai on December 2 for a two-day visit. His mission: to promote his upcoming action-thriller, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol in the country.
And interestingly, Cruise - along with co-star Anil Kapoor - is also likely to host the biggest-ever fan screening in Mumbai. The idea is to showcase MI:4 to the franchise's biggest fans, who will also get a chance to watch filmmaker Brad Bird's extravaganza before the rest of the world.
Around 1500 people are expected to be shown a first glimpse of Cruise's stunts, two weeks before the film officially releases in India. Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, who have the distribution and marketing rights of the film, are keeping the information under wraps.
However, team members of the organising committee inform that plans are afoot to hold a pan-India contest to pick the lucky 1,500. "All the fans will be flown into Mumbai from various parts of India, and will watch the film with Tom and Anil Kapoor," says the team member.
When contacted, Kapoor - who plays Indian business tycoon Brij Nath in the film - confirms, saying, "Yes, the fan screening is on but it's too premature to talk about it in detail right now. We will see how things go." SOURCE

Paramount Pictures U.K. Shows IMAX Footage for 'Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol' Paramount Pictures U.K. encouraged an invitation-only crowd of opinion makers and journalists to go away and talk about what unspooled after screening exclusive fresh footage for the upcoming Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, starring Tom Cruise.
The studio aired the footage, introduced via recorded VT by director Brad Bird, at the BFI IMAX theater in central London Friday morning.
The footage, some of which had just been sent overnight by Bird and co. from Skywalker ranch where it is being finalized for release, included scenes with Cruise, co-star Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Paula Patton and Anil Kapoor at a party in Dubai.
For the British audience, Pegg’s turn garnered laughs in the right places as his character – a geeky computer expert who is a key part of Ethan Hunt’s IMF team – played out in scenes opposite Renner and also Cruise, Renner and Patton.
Bird noted in his introduction that the film includes scenes shot using IMAX cameras, saying it was the first time in a long time the large format film had been used for an action movie of this scale.
Other footage shown included a chase scene amid a desert sandstorm, Cruise’s Hunt character scaling the world’s tallest building in Dubai, the Burj Khalifa building and Cruise and Renner playing opposite Tom Wilkinson as he learns of his mission.
Cruise and co. are expected to be in London for its premiere early December. SOURCE

NHL to Pimp Ghost Protocol The NHL has made its first major pact with a film studio, teaming with Paramount for the release of "Mission Impossible -- Ghost Protocol."
During the Boston Bruins-Detroit Red Wings game Friday on NBC, the net will offer clips and promote the upcoming Tom Cruise sequel, which opens wide Dec. 21. In addition, the league's "NHL Mission Impossible" sweepstakes will be touted for five weeks, through the start of the new year.
The league, whose fan base is the most youthful of the four major sports, according to NHL research, has long wanted to team up with a film studio in hopes of tapping into an audience that is similar to the young moviegoer demo.
In addition to NBC, other NHL-related telecasts will integrate "Ghost Protocol" clips and game footage. The NHL is also seen on the Peacock's sports cabler Versus -- soon to be rebranded as NBC Sports Network -- as well as TSN in Canada.
After having already established the annual Winter Classic as a branding event, the NHL is looking to make another beachhead with the post-Thanksgiving Friday. This year's game -- marketed as the "NHL Thanksgiving Showdown" -- will signify the earliest time of the season that an NHL game will be nationally televised on a broadcast network.
Wachtel said the league will stay in contact with the studios all season long, especially when the Stanley Cup playoffs arrive in late spring. That's when the studios are looking for increased promotional heft for their summer blockbuster releases. SOURCE

Tom Cruise is unrestrained in his praise for the interestingness of the latest addition to the Mission: Impossible team: "Here he is, he's a musician, he's interested in design, he's got a curiosity about life, and he's just, in every way, an incredible dramatic actor." For good measure, Cruise adds, Renner is "dynamic and an amazing athlete and very graceful with his action."
Still, it's hard to picture him skipping. "A funny thing happened when we were shooting in Dubai," Cruise says. He discovered that Renner has a little jig he does when he gets nervous, a spazzy little dance to loosen himself up. "I can't even describe the Renner Stretch. He's got a copyright on the Renner Stretch. I laughed so hard when he did it for me. I said this has gotta go in this movie. I said you gotta show [director Brad] Bird. You gotta show Bird! It's gotta go in right before this tunnel sequence we do. So it's in the movie. I don't think I could do the Renner Stretch justice, but he's an actor who's not afraid to do that and go there."
Brad Bird, the Mission: Impossible director (and Oscar-winning writer and director of the animated blockbusters Ratatouille and The Incredibles), tells a story about the tension during shooting: "There's a scene where several team members are in each other's faces. It was exhausting. Jeremy was getting really pissed off because it was hard to stay at that pitch. He screwed a line up and went, 'Yearrggggghhhhh!' and let out a bunch of expletives and just said, 'Let's go, let's just go!' And he was fantastic because all of his frustration came through. I said, 'I know you hate me right now, but that's probably going to wind up in the film.' And it did."
Harnessing the tension, pushing through the setbacks, keeping things interesting to keep himself engaged—this is the Jeremy Renner Story. It was what he did before his mid-career ascension to the major leagues. And you get the feeling it's what he'll do long after the star-making machine has anointed someone new.
"The thing I feel very, very blessed about is that what makes me feel good about my job is also what audiences and directors seem to like. I'll do things that people don't like and that's fine. I just want to continue to work and, if I get the opportunity, swing for the fences." He pokes me in the arm. "I'm not gonna go for a single. I'm not gonna go for a layup," says Renner, cocking a smile, looking like he's going to either hug me or slug me. "I'm gonna slam-dunk that motherfucker—that is the intent."
