Still trying to recover from a serious knee injury, Rafael is seen playing golf, attending TV shows, swimming and partying..And getting painful knee injections.. This is a recent event where Rafa was invited to Paris to attend a football match of the famous French Club Paris St Germain.. As we all know , he is not the one to miss an invitation to a football match.. He is a crazy football fan.. He got a standing ovation when he appeared in the stadium. (Hope he gets the same welcome at The French Open ..Hahahahaha!) -------------------------------------------------------------------- In the meantime, Australian Open (14-27 January 2013) hopes to see Rafa healthy and fit at the tournament (hope so Aussies, hope so..) They are trying even to lure him and us with their Facebook:

He is BACK ! Rafaholics
Rafa quotes from talking to press yesterday:
""I think I am feeling better, the knee is improving the right way and I am happy to be on court another time after a few months outside," "I am just enjoying the feeling to be playing tennis another time and, well, it will be another period of my recovery," he added. "I start very slow and I go day by day. I will work hard in my comeback and hopefully the knee will be ready soon. "Always you have to be careful. A few months outside of competition the body has to re-adapt everything on court and all the muscles need to start very slow." "Every day is better otherwise I wouldn't be on the court," he said. "The images say the evolution has been favorable and that is reason for satisfaction after many months of working and waiting. "It is now another phase where I´m starting little by little and going day by day with patience to find the right moment when all is well and my body will be ready to compete and when my knee is ready."

SAD NEWS AFTER SAD NEWS : Aussie agony for Nadal as injury rules Spaniard out of first grand slam of 2013
By Mike Dickson PUBLISHED: 15:40, 28 December 2012 | UPDATED: 23:16, 28 December 2012 Aussie ruled: Nadal has pulled out of the showpiece event Rafael Nadal has raised further anxious questions about his future by withdrawing from the Australian Open more than two weeks before its start due to a lack of preparation brought about by a stomach virus. The world number four - soon to drop out of the top quartet for the first time since 2005 as a result of this - has given himself another two months to get back after being laid low by gastroentiritis. What was described by his doctor as a 4-5 day virus prevented him from practising over the festive period, thus setting back his practice plans and giving him insufficent time to be ready after what has already been a six months absence. His uncle and coach Toni Nadal explained: 'It is simply not conceivable that the first event back could be a best-of-five sets tournament, he wouldn't be ready for that.' The 26 year-old Spaniard has now set his sights on returning at the relatively obscure ATP clay court event at Acapulco in Mexico on February 25. That in turn raises the question about whether he will attempt to play at all on hard courts - the most punishing surface for his knees - until much before the US Open, or possibly ever again. In effect, the 4-5 day fever he has suffered has pushed back his comeback plans by two months, suggesting a lack of belief in the condition of his knees, although he did not rule out coming back before Acapulco if he felt right by then. Patella tendinitis, a condition that is manageable rather than curable for an athlete, has stopped him appearing since his second round exit at Wimbledon in late June. "You need your body to be at its best for the Australian Open, it was a difficult decision and I'm extremely disappointed,' said Nadal, 'It hurts to have to wait another two months. My knees are much better and the rehabilitation process has gone well but the virus prevented me from practising last week.' Rafael Nadal will miss the Australian Open next month due to a stomach virus as his long-awaited return was put on hold again. www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/tennis/rafaelnadal/9769645/Australian-Open-2013-Rafael-Nadal-withdraws-due-to-stomach-virus.html-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PAU GASOL (Basketball star- Lakers): "Lots of support to Rafael Nadal for not being able to play at the Australia Open. We're all eager to see you back on the court!" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Football superstar Ronaldo ( Real Madrid) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My View, trying to be cool : Neil Harman met Rafa in Mallorca (20th Dec.) and tweeted : "Rafa is not feeling well.." Val, thanks for the interesting articles.. What a disappointment for everybody who couldnt wait to see Rafa on court.. All this reminds me of Serena who cut her foot ; other health problems followed and she couldnt compete for a whole year.. But she made a great return.. We havent heard of Soderling yet who suffered from an illness.. We are so used of seeing Rafa give his best even when he is injured that we are expecting him to recover soon and start competing.. The viral infection has been an unexpected turn and must have affected Rafa physically and mentally, just when he had started practising and was getting the feel of the court, after a long absence.. Lets wait and see how things will go when he starts practising. Posted at Rafael Nadal Forum where people have lost their minds as at other fan sites.. Recent picture

Hellooo Dear Imelda.. Hope all is well.. Great to see you posting. Rafa will be back in Brazil Open at Sao Paulo from February 11, Just check my previous post about the Acapulco tournament.. Very wise decision to start the season on clay courts.. As for AO, I am completely ignoring it..No threads needed for them.. I hope a new name wins it other than Djok or Fed or Andy or Ferrer ..Why not Delpo ? Goodness .. I never thought I would be so away from tennis. I havent watched any matches since Rafa got injured. And I am a tennis fan.. But without him , tennis is not the same.. From his Facebook Rafa Nadal shared a link. Con mucha ilusión de volver a Brasil! Happy to be back soon in Brazil! Imelda.. Just read this article and see we are not the only ones who miss Rafa.. I have read so many beautiful articles which moan about the absence of Rafa from AO... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Open Insider: the absence of Rafael Nadal robs the Australian Open of a major drawcard in Melbourne
•By Will Swanton •FOX SPORTS •January 16, 2013 11:00AM The man we are missing ... Rafael Nadal's absence is being felt. Source: Miguel Medina / AFP Wednesday is a day of silence. There is a gaping hole in the Australian Open and his name is Rafael Nadal. It has been confirmed that his return from career-threatening knee troubles is only a few weeks away, slated for the Brazil Open at Sao Paulo from February 11, and it cannot come quickly enough. When the schedule for day three at Melbourne Park rolled off Tennis Australia's printing machine, normally a moment of unabashed fanfare and expectation among the jackals of the press - cracking day tomorrow! - there was uneasy silence followed by a scratching of heads. Gracing Rod Laver Arena in the day session, in order of appearance, are Irina-Carmelia Begu, Agnieszka Radwanska, Guillaume Rufin, Tomas Berdych, Zie Jheng and Samantha Stosur. The latter is compelling viewing, of course, even if it's occasionally in the same way that the shower scene from Psycho is worth a squiz. The rest, however, are a cavalcade of mildly interesting practitioners and it took a moment to understand how the hole in the schedule could be so deep. Eureka! No Nadal. No Spaniard in the works. No bandana. No unveiling of the biggest forearm since Popeye's. No screaming schoolgirls. No screaming cougars. No sign of the most thunderous forehand of all. To be clear, any day at the Australian Open is a good 'un. There might still be thrillers from one end of the precinct to the other. But the attraction of the men's tour is the absolute supremacy of The Big Four and their relentless charges towards semi-final showdowns at slams. Last year, they delivered, motoring into the final four and peeling off a couple of classics. Nadal versus Federer was a gem. Djokovic versus Murray was out of this world: the second most grandiose match of the year behind the hurt locker that was the Nadal-Djokovic final. Remember Nadal's crazed reaction when he won the fourth set? The clock roared past midnight and the lunatic was pumping his fists and falling to the ground and howling with every last skerrick of energy and desire a man could have. They went toe-to-toe for so long that Djokovic fell flat on his back while hitting a backhand. Nadal had pushed him to the limit - the most absolute outer limit - of his capabilities. He had run him so ragged, pushed him so hard, that for one point deep in the fifth set, Djokovic literally could not take one more step. Remember all that? Remember Nadal's speech? Gutted to have lost, disbelieving at the sitter of a backhand he missed at 4-2, 30-15 in the fifth set, he grabbed the microphone in the wee small hours, gave an impish grin and whispered: "Good morning, everyone." Remember his description of the match itself, his revelling of the endurance and the endorphins. He wanted pain. He wanted tennis to hurt. He wanted the face-melting challenge of telling himself to keep going when every nerve-ending was screaming at him to stop. Asked afterwards if it would take an eternity for the disappointment of his harrowing defeat to ease, he replied: "No, no, no, no, no, no. Just accept." We miss the tennis and we miss the man himself because now, an intruder will take his place in the semi-finals. A squatter with limited right to be there. On the seedings, it will be David Ferrer. He is a mighty little player with a resolute work ethic, and he has done wonders since his cranky coach locked him in a cupboard for three hours because his training was lazy as a teenager, but he cannot be described as electrifying. Fast forward to the semi-finals. Federer versus Murray. Djokovic versus ... Ferrer? Nadal's absence is keenly felt on Wednesday because when the Big Four was in full throe, two of them featured each day, paired up on their pillion rides to the second week. Tuesday was Federer and Murray. Wednesday should be Djokovic and Nadal. Instead we have to sit through Berdych versus Rufin on Rod Laver Arena. Ferrer has been shoved out to Margaret Court Arena. Berdych and Rufin? We could take it or leave it. Djokovic and Ryan Harrison - a feisty American who reacts to criticism with remarks like, "Don't disrespect me, man!" - will not be unfurled until close to 9pm FOX SPORTS
