Hi Gang, I've been on a tennis fast as well, and surprised at how little I've missed it. I'll probably check back in next week when things pick up, but it's boring without Nadal. Hopefully something dramatic will happen to up the excitement factor. (Djoker or Federer bombing out early, Serena punching a linesperson )

While Rafa was preparing for his South American swing, he had some pastimes such as playing poker.. No wonder people were watching Rafa instead of their own cards - he won! www.pokerstarsblog.com/rafa_nada ... 26237.html PokerStars news » Rafa Nadal Rafa Nadal wins first poker tournament by Brad Willis on January 23, 2013 8:19 AM There are some people who simply have winning in their blood. Tennis legend Rafa Nadal is one of those people, and he proved it again today as he won his very first PokerStars tournament. Nadal beat out 47 other players in a €10 freeze-out tourney on PokerStars.es. It took him just a little more than two hours to beat the field for a €152.40 first prize. Now, before you snicker at the idea of one of the world's richest sports stars pocketing €152, you have to consider what it implies: the money doesn't matter. It's about the game. It's about competition. It's about winning. As you might recall, Nadal joined PokerStars as member of Team SportStars last summer. It coincided with when the legend fell victim to injury and had begin work on his recovery. His pain left him unable to compete on the clay, and hence, unable to do what he does best: win. And so over the past seven months, Nadal has practiced his poker game, worked on bluffing, and even had a good showing in the Spanish ESCOOP festival. He had done all that, but until today, he had no poker victory. He changed that when he made the final table and knocked out the final five players. While Nadal's tennis career has been plagued by issues over the past several months, he's still planning to return to game for which he is best known. With that understood, it seems clear, Nadal is working hard on his poker pastime, too. Nadal on the court Nadal's poker instruction still has a long way to go. There is a great deal of space between winning a €10 buy-in tournament and being recognized as one of the greats of the game. Nevertheless, this is a start, and one that shows Nadal can sit where he's most comfortable: the top. Brad Willis is the PokerStars Head of Blogging

First trophy of 2013 after 7 months of injury without tennis - Sao Paolo, Brazil (beat Nalbandian).. This is Nadal's 51 st ATP Tour title..Plus He has 11 Grand Slam titles..Nadal, who said he still suffers pain in his troublesome knees, has chosen to return to action on the clay courts he favours as he tries to work his way back to match fitness. "When the knee hurts I can't move properly," Nadal said. "And if I can't move properly, I can't hit the ball cleanly. "When my knee gets better, the tennis will get better, the head (will get better), everything will get better. Today was the day I felt best on court." Although he was clearly a long way from his best, Nadal showed the same swashbuckle that took him to the top of the game. In a reference to his first title in Brazil in 2005, the year he burst on to the world scene, he said he hoped this win would mark a new beginning for him. Eurosport

Indian Wells, Cal.Yup..He def. Fed in straight sets 6-4 6-2...Time for the semifinal vs Berdych who is in top form .. Going be a tough match - hope Rafa is healthy and his knee does not bother him...Rafa is trying to make a comeback although he has already won 2 titles in February 2013. The knee, you know ! Fedal (Federer vs Nadal) head to head : they played 29 matches, Rafa leads 19 - 10 . ------------------------------------------------------------------ I was not posting anything not to jinx Rafa..Besides I have a cold, some family business to fix , so can't enter the net as often as I d like..Sorry about that Archie.. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Did you know that Rafa is staying at Larry Ellison's residence in Indian Wells? LARRY is a Rafa fan.. This picture shows the friendship of Rafa and Fed - Rafa looks almost embarassed for beating Fed. He is such a gentleman. From Rafa's Facebook "Thursday : "Descansando en casa por la mañana... Esperando a que llegue la hora! Resting at home this morning. Waiting for tonight's match ." ( Ellison's golf course or garden) FEDAL (Federer - Nadal) match Highlights ( I think all this could go to the North American Hard Courts thread!, No ? )
