Clint Eastwood Sounds out Tom Cruise for A Star is Born
Clint Eastwood is hoping to persuade Hollywood renaissance man Tom Cruise to take the lead in his forthcoming remake of A Star Is Born opposite Beyoncé, Deadline reports.
Cruise is just the latest Hollywood A-lister to be attached to the role in what will be the fourth version of the story, which sees a fading star fall in love with a youthful ingenue who begins to eclipse him. He recently completed filming on musical Rock of Ages, in which he plays ageing frontman Stacee Jaxx, so ought not to baulk at Eastwood's plans for a musical take on the project. The veteran film-maker proposes to mimick the direction of the 1976 A Star Is Born, which cast Barbra Streisand alongside Kris Kristofferson and moved the story from the film industry to the music business.
Leonardo DiCaprio, Will Smith, Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman, Robert Downey Jr, Eminem, Christian Bale and Mad Men's Jon Hamm have all been under consideration for the male lead role during A Star Is Born's long gestation. Beyoncé walked away from the role at one point due to the delays, but agreed to sign on the dotted line after Eastwood took the director's chair.
The original 1937 version of the film starred Fredric March and Janet Gaynor as an ageing Hollywood actor and the bright young thing he takes under his wing. The film was remade in 1954 with James Mason and Judy Garland. While Hollywood has procrastinated about returning A Star Is Born to the big screen, the French film The Artist, which adopts a similar storyline, recently became the first silent movie in more than 80 years to win an Oscar.
Eastwood will be taking on a musical for the first time as director, but the veteran actor and film-maker has maintained an intense interest in music throughout his career. The last film in which he appeared in front of the cameras, Gran Torino, featured Eastwood crooning over the end credits, and he composed scores for his films Mystic River, Million Dollar Baby and Changeling.
Cruise, who is currently shooting the science-fiction film Oblivion for Tron Legacy director Joseph Kosinski, is currently on a career upturn after Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol became the most successful film in the four-movie spy series at the box office earlier this year, as well as attracting strong reviews.

TOP GUN 2 is Inching towards Production with Tom Cruise and Tony Scott
The last thing we heard about this Top Gun sequel was that The Town screenwriter Peter Craig was going to be working on the script for the film. It sounds like things are coming along as the studio is looking to get Top Gun 2 into theaters before they end up doing another Mission: Impossible movie. Paramount film group president Adam Goodman recently did an interview with THR, and when asked about a new Mission: Impossible film he said,
“We'll likely make a Top Gun sequel with Tom Cruise first. Jerry Bruckheimer would produce, with Tony Scott returning to direct. All parties are moving ahead. We've hired Peter Craig to write the script.
”This little statement says a lot. It basically confirms that the movie is definitely happening, Tom Cruise will be back to reprise his role, and Tony Scott is going to direct it. This is one of those movies I was never really sure about, but hearing this information come out of the mouth of the guy who knows what's actually going on tells me that this movie is really going to happen. It's just a matter of time.
I'm excited to see where they take the story and where Maverick is in his life. There's so much they can do with this world; it would be great to see it go in a direction that will make fans of the original film happy. Let's just hope they don't work a ridiculous alien invasion into the story. Here's what Cruise had to say about the film in a previous interview last year:
“I hope we can figure this out to go do it again. If we can find a story that we all want to do, we all want to make a film that is in the same kind of tone as the other one and shoot it in the same way as we shot 'Top Gun.'
”I take it they don't want to do any CGI jet fighter scenes. Hey, if they can do it with real jets again, why the hell not?! It'd be a lot cooler than using fake animated jet fighters.
What are your thoughts on a Top Gun sequel? Is this something you'd want to see? Do you think it would be better using CGI jets or real ones?

Cruise will star in Top Gun sequel
Friday 27 April 2012 The sequel to the 1986 classic Top Gun is in the works and Paramount studios' top man insists Tom Cruise is on board to star as an ageing Maverick.
Movie executive Adam Goodman has confirmed the star is set to don the flight jacket once again in the role that made him a global superstar.
Goodman let the big news slip during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter about a fifth Mission: Impossible film, stating: "We'll likely make a Top Gun sequel with Tom Cruise first. Jerry Bruckheimer would produce, with Tony Scott returning to direct."
Goodman adds: "All parties are moving ahead. We've hired Peter Craig to write the script."
Speaking about the sequel back in December Cruise admitted that he was in talks Tony Scott and the producer Jerry Bruckheimer and that the project would go ahead provided they could "find a story that we all want to do".
He said: "I hope we can figure this out to do it again.
"I said to Tony, I want to make another movie with him. He and I haven't made a film since Days of Thunder."

Tom Cruise taking stab at Van Helsing?
May 1, 2012, 2:46 PM EST Entertainment Tonight It looks like Tom Cruise is going to take a stab at making the Van Helsing character his own. In a Universal Studios announcement of a new deal with hot screenwriting duo Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci -- the men who crafted the "Transformers" and "Star Trek" franchise storylines, (not to mention "Mission: Impossible III," "Cowboys & Aliens" and the "Hawaii Five-0" TV reboot) -- it was also revealed that Cruise is attached to produce and star in a new "Van Helsing" movie, taking over the crossbow from Hugh Jackman. The 2004 "Van Helsing" found Jackman battling Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster and The Wolf Man on their home turf of Transylvania in a frenetic, over-the-top CGI spectacle. The updated Cruise version will be a "re-imagining" of the franchise. Universal also announced that Kurtzman and Orci will be involved in a reboot of "The Mummy" franchise, but there's no word yet if Brendan Fraser will be involved; and the Cruise connection extends with "All You Need Is Kill," which the screenwriting duo recently rewrote. msn No Tom, no.... Please !! *

Cruise, Downey, El Presidente? Mega-star team-ups are all the rage these days. We’ve got everyone who ever kicked ass in the 1990s joining forces in The Expendables 2, Arnold and Stallone raiding The Tomb shoulder to shoulder and…um…Oh God, what am I forgetting? Anyway, Warner Brothers has its sights set on creating another, reportedly hoping to convince Tom Cruise (Rock of Ages) and Robert Downey Jr. (The Avengers….Right, of course!) to sign on for action- comedy El Presidente, which Jay Roach (Meet the Parents, HBO’s Game Change) is currently in talks to direct.
The flick would see Cruise stepping into the role of a gung-ho Secret Service agent assigned to protect a particularly reviled former President of the United States played by Downey Jr. At the moment, offers have not been made to either actor, but that could be forthcoming. SOURCEGah, no.

Tom Cruise attached to MGM's 'Magnificent Seven' As MGM prepares to start production on "RoboCop" and "Carrie" later this year, the studio is going back to the vault again to develop a remake of John Sturges' 1960 Western "The Magnificent Seven" with Tom Cruise attached to star.
There is no director onboard yet, though sources tell Variety that MGM has quietly started its search for a writer.
Sources caution that while Cruise has long been interested in saddling up for a "Magnificent Seven" remake, the project is still a long ways off and is not in Cruise's immediate plans. SOURCE

Magnificent Seven" Remake Gets a Writer
Monday, August 13, 2012, 01:49 PM Posted by Mannythemovieguy.com MGM is moving forward with their planned remake of "The Magnificent Seven" starring Tom Cruise. The studio has hired Nic Pizzolatto to write a script for the remake which was itself a remake of Akira Kurosawa's 1954 gem, "Seven Samurai." The original starred Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, James Coburn, Robert Vaughn, Brad Dexter and Horst Buchholz. They played a group of American gunmen hired to protect a small Mexican village from a group of baddies headed by Eli Wallach. According to Variety, production of the remake could still be a ways off because of Cruise's schedule. For now, take a look at the original 1960 movie:

Cruise Circling ADAM "Pacific Rim" producer Mary Parent is out with a sci-fi spec script by T.S. Nowlin ("Agent 13") titled "Our Name Is Adam" to which Tom Cruise is said to be attached to topline, sources tell Variety.
Representatives for Cruise were not immediately available to comment.
Logline is being kept under wraps, but Cruise has shown a keen interest in sci-fi of late, filming Universal's "Oblivion" and WB's "All You Need Is Kill" back-to-back.
Cruise and Parent previously worked together on "Valkyrie," when he was running United Artists and she was chair of MGM's Worldwide Motion Picture Group.
Cruise is attached to approximately a half-dozen projects around town, with no frontrunner to be his next movie. They include a remake of "The Magnificent Seven" at MGM, a "Van Helsing" movie at Universal with Rupert Sanders ("Snow White and the Huntsman") circling to direct and of course, "Mission: Impossible 5" at Paramount. Thesp, who is repped by CAA and Greenberg Glusker, next stars in Christopher McQuarrie's thriller "Jack Reacher," which Par will release on Christmas Day. SOURCE

Paramount Nabs Tom Cruise For Sci-Fi Flick ‘Our Name Is Adam’
Paramount is in love with Tom Cruise.
With the last Mission: Impossible making an ungodly amount of money, any studio would be in love with a star like Cruise.
Just with Paramount, he’s got the M:i series, brand new (hopeful) franchise-starter Jack Reacher, and now: Our Name Is Adam.
Although the deal isn’t yet finalized, Paramount wants Cruise to star in Adam, a science-fiction script written by T.S. Nowlin.
Deadline NY succinctly describes the plot:
“A Back To The Future-style tale in which Cruise goes back in time and meets his former self.”
Sounds like they found a replacement project for Cruise after Top Gun 2 presumably fell by the wayside after the tragic death of director Tony Scott.

Paramount Closes Deal for ADAM Paramount Pictures has closed its deal to acquire Our Name Is Adam, the T.S. Nowlin script that will have Tom Cruise play an astronaut who travels back in time and works with his younger self. Paramount would step up and not waste the first crack it had on the material through its first look deal with Mary Parent’s Disruption. The studio stepped up after it secured Skydance Productions as its partner on the film. There was buzz on the project when it looked like other studios would get a shot at the material, but that pretty much ended when Paramount entered into an exclusive negotiation last Wednesday.
