Shall we start a thread for MI5 ? ----------------------------------------------
Mission: Impossible 5 Lands a Writer, Possibly McQuarrie to Direct
Christopher McQuarrie is said to be gin discussionsh to direct the fifth installment in Tom Cruisefs gMission Impossibleh franchise, which would re-team him with Cruise post-hJack Reacherh. McQuarrie is a busy man, with a lot on his plate (including writing and directing a remake of gIce Station Zebrah), but directing a sure-thing hit like gMI5 is probably something hefs not very keen on passing up, especially since itfs with his pal Tom.
More certain is Drew Pearce, who has landed scripting duties on the upcoming sequel. Pearce is coming off Shane Blackfs gIron Man 3, where he shares co-writing credit with Black, and also has Guillermo del Torofs gPacific Rimh and the upcoming gSherlock Holmes 3 among his credits.
Of course, McQuarrie being a writer/director himself, I suspect hefll be tinkering with the script long after Pearce is finished. If he actually signs on to direct, that is.
Cruise is expected to accept his latest assignment from the IMF once he wraps up Guy Ritchiefs gThe Man from UNCLEh big-screen adaptation for Warner Bros.
The last gMission Impossibleh movie grossed just a shade under $700 million worldwide, and over $200 million of that coming from domestic moviegoers. This, back when studio heads thought Cruisefs days as an A-list leading man was over, and Jeremy Renner was being groomed to take over. Wow, that didnft quite work out, huh? It worked out just fine for Cruise, of course, but not so much Renner, who has been the greplacement action heroh in two series now, gMission: Impossibleh and the gBourneh franchise, and it doesnft look like either one has panned out.

Jerry Bruckheimer is still hopeful that a TOP GUN Sequel will get off the ground
20 September
Today we got word that Jerry Bruckheimer was splitting from Disney after a long prosperous relationship. Now it seems like there's one property that the producer was attached to that people are still curious about-- a sequel to 1986's TOP GUN. Not that long ago, the stars had finally aligned for the project. Tom Cruise was on, Tony Scott was location scouting, and Bruckheimer was back on as producer. Sadly last Fall Scott suddenly passed away and everything just sort of fell apart. So what is the fate of the film now? Is there a possibility that it can still happen? Bruckheimer said this in an interview with the LA Times:
“Gosh, I hope so. What was the original, more than 25 years ago? I’m still trying to get it off the ground.”
Bruckheimer said that there was still work being done on the script which was last in the hands of THE TOWN's Peter Craig. At one point, the film was said to be "focusing on the use of drones in modern warfare". There's no clear future for TOP GUN 2 but those looking to dive into the 80s might have to look forward to the BEVERLY HILLS COP sequel. Source: LA Times

Tom Cruise & 'Oblivion' Director Reteam for 'Go Like Hell' Racing Film
by Ethan Anderton October 24, 2013 Source: The Wrap
Almost exactly four years ago we learned that Brad Pitt and Josh Brolin might be interested in a project called Go Like Hell. The film would be based on A.J. Baime's non-fiction book Go Like Hell: Ford, Ferrari, and Their Battle for Speed and Glory at Le Mans, which tells the remarkable story of how Henry Ford II, with the help of a young visionary named Lee Iacocca and former racing champ turned engineer, Carroll Shelby, concocted a scheme to reinvent the Ford company.
Michael Mann was once circling the project in 2011, but that never solidified, and now The Wrap reports Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski is involved.
There's no deal in place for Kosinski yet, but his Oblivion star Tom Cruise is also in talks to develop the film as a starring vehicle, where he would play Henry Ford II.
This is a wholly engaging story as the three prominent men in automobile history would enter the high-stakes world of European car racing, where an adventurous few threw safety and sanity to the wind. They would design, build, and race a car that could beat Enzo Ferrari at his own game at 24 Hours of Le Mans, the most prestigious and brutal race in the world, something no American car had ever done. This sounds like it could be awesome, especially with the Days of Thunder star returning to the racetrack for the first time in 23 years. Sound good?

Tom Cruise and Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski will reunite for Go Like Hell, a 20th Century Fox production. Cruise will play Caroll Shelby.
Based on A.J. Baime’s book Go Like Hell: Ford, Ferrari, And Their Battle For Speed And Glory At Le Mans, the story follows “the decision by Henry Ford II to go against Enzo Ferrari’s dominance on the Le Mans track in 1966. Ford challenged Ferrari with a car designed by racer-turned-car designer Carroll Shelby. It plays out like The Right Stuff on the race track as Ford was able to turn around its fortunes in the sports-car marketplace, elevating the automaker’s fortunes under Lee Iacocca.” Cruise will make Go Like Hell after he completes Mission: Impossible 5. The film will be produced by Lucas Foster and Alex Young. Previously, Brad Pitt expressed interest in play Shelby. The project is still in its early stages, and the script is being overhauled to fit with Kosinski’s style. According to sources, 20th Century Fox is making the movie a priority, so expect to hear more in the coming weeks/months. What do you think? SOURCE: Deadline

Tom Cruise courting Jack Nicholson for upcoming El Presidente
Nicholson pegged for role as alcoholic, womanising former president in film by The Bourne Identity director Doug Liman
•Wednesday 20 November 2013 10.40 GMT
Tom Cruise is seeking a high-profile star to play an alcoholic, womanising former US president in a new comedy: three-time Oscar winner Jack Nicholson
Cruise wants Nicholson to play the title character in El Presidente, according to the Hollywood Reporter. In the film, which The Bourne Identity's Doug Liman is to direct, Cruise will play a straight-arrow US Secret Service agent assigned to protect the country's worst-ever former commander-in-chief. His charge was elevated from vice-president upon the death of his predecessor, and spent much of his time in office boozing and chasing women. In the screenplay, by British comedy writer Jesse Armstrong, Daniel J Goor and Paul Attanasio, the pair are forced to go on the run when an assassination attempt is made on the former president's life.
Nicholson recently denied reports he had retired from acting due to memory loss, despite not having appeared on the big screen since 2010, when he played the father of a business executive facing jail over alleged corporate malfeasance in the Reese Witherspoon and Paul Rudd romcom/drama How Do You Know. Nicholson's only other acting role in recent years has been 2007's The Bucket List.
"Contrary to opinion, however sated I got, I always looked after myself. I'm in good shape – a little stout, but healthy. I have a mathematician's brain," the 76-year-old actor told the Sun.
Nicholson however, hinted that audiences might no longer be interested in seeing the kind of films he wanted to make. "The movie business is the greatest business, but I only want to do films that move people, films about emotions and people," he said. "I had the most chilling thought that maybe people in their 20s and 30s don't actually want to be moved any more. They may want just to see more bombs, more explosions, because that is what they have grown up with. And I'll never do that type of movie."
Cruise and Liman reportedly visited Nicholson at his Hollywood Hills home to convince him to take the role. Cruise, who appeared with Nicholson in 1992's A Few Good Men, told his former co-star he would not do the film without him. It is not yet known if the charm offensive did the trick, but the Hollywood icon is said to have promised to at least read

Doug Liman will Direct Tom Cruise in El Presidente
10 hours ago | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »
Doug Liman has signed on to direct the comedy El Presidente, which reunites him with his Edge of Tomorrow star Tom Cruise.
The project has been in development since 2010, when a report surfaced that Tom Cruise was looking to team up with his A Few Good Men co-star Jack Nicholson. Three years later, Tom Cruise and Doug Liman are making one last-ditch effort to get the notoriously picky Jack Nicholson to sign on. Sources indicate that the actor and director visited Jack Nicholson's Hollywood Hills home last week, with Tom Cruise reportedly saying that he won't do the movie without Jack Nicholson.
The story follows a Secret Service agent (Tom Cruise) who is assigned to protect America's worst former President, an alcoholic womanizer who was never elected President, but was elevated from Vice President after the Commander-in-Chief died.

Doug Liman to reunite Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson for El Presidente?
Friday, 22 November 2013 Doug Liman has finished filming on the sci-fi film Edge of Tomorrow, and is now looking to reunite with Tom Cruise on El Presidente, a movie that he's been trying to get made for 3 years. Which is odd because it's a great premise, and it's Tom Cruise.
The story is about “a straight-arrow Secret Service agent who is assigned to protect America’s worst former president, an alcoholic and womanizing sleazebag who never won a presidential election but was elevated from VP when the president died.” After a posed threat the two most go on a road trip and hi-jinks ensue. Once again this premise sells itself and it seems like this is something that Tom Cruise could finance without any trouble, so it's curious as to why it's taken so long to get started.
One of the things that might have slowed up production is that Tom Cruise seems to be very insistent that Jack Nicholson plays the ex-president, reuniting the two A Few Good Men stars, but at this point all Nicholson has done is read the script. I hope Nicholson decides to come on and let's this be his last project.

Brad Pitt in talks to join "Go Like Hell" The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Pitt is being courted to star alongside Cruise in Go Like Hell, Fox’s racing movie based on Go Like Hell: Ford, Ferrari and Their Battle for Speed and Glory at Le Mans, written by A. J. Baime.
Lucas Foster and Alex Young are producing the true story of the competition between the Ford Motor Company and Italian sports car designer Enzo Ferrari, which culminated at the 1966 Le Mans race.
Pitt was attached to star in the project when it had Michael Mann on board as director back in 2009. He remained interested in the project and has had talks with the new team. With Kosinski supervising the writing -- brothers Jez and John-Henry Butterworth have written a new draft -- a new script is in the actor’s hands. SOURCE

Tom Cruise in Talks for Star Wars Episode 7 ?
Tom Cruise is reportedly in talks with director J.J. Abrams to take a role in the new Star Wars movie, Episode VII.
“Tom has been in London for over a week and met up with J.J. (Abrams, and some other people from Star Wars at the weekend,” a source close to the production told The Sun newspaper in the UK.
Star Wars is currently being filmed nearby at Buckinghamshire’s Pinewood studios and it seems that the misfortune of Cruise’s fellow 80s icon Harrison Ford has provided an opening for Cruise as the delay in filming has reportedly allowed Abrams and his lieutenants time to consider a Cruise cameo. Ford required surgery after breaking his leg on the set of the movie while filming scenes as his character from the original movies, Han Solo on June 12.
“Losing Harrison is going to set things back a little scheduling wise and there’s some time to play around with,” the insider told the paper.
It seems that Abrams’ close friendship with Cruise led them to meet-up for a bite to eat and that the director may be set to give the Mission: Impossible actor an unexpected chance to star in the most iconic movie franchise of all-time.
“On Saturday evening five of them met up for dinner and drinks at the Belgravia Hotel. J.J. produced Mission: Impossible 5 and loves working with Tom whenever he gets the chance,” the source said.
Cruise’s career has seen him star in a number of blockbuster sci-fi hits, including Minority Report and War of the Worlds. However his most recent foray into the genre – Edge of Tomorrow, has done less well at the box-office despite being very well received by critics.
However we think this one might just be tabloid tittle-tattle using Cruise and Abrams’ friendship as an excuse to justify what would be a potentially explosive story for Star Wars fans.
Cruise is a fine actor but it would be difficult to see him turning up on Tatooine without being a bit of a distraction. His cameo in 2008’s Tropic Thunder was loved by the critics but was a cartoonish one and the thought of Cruise’s screen presence may not sit well with those who want the Star Wars franchise to get back to the darker elements of the first three films after George Lucas’ series of prequels were widely derided.
However one option maybe to give Cruise an uncredited cameo role in a guise where we don’t recognise him – within the Star Wars universe there’s certainly plenty of scope for Cruise to play one of the non-humanoid aliens underneath make-up or using CGI.
So what do you think? Will Tom Cruise be in Star Wars? Is it a good idea? Or is this story as daft as bringing back Jar-Jar Binks?
(Serin : Tom, I hope this is a joke..)
